THERE ARE TWO MAIN TYPES OF ABORTION:

MEDICAL ABORTION

Medication abortion also called the abortion pill, can be taken up to 70 days (10 weeks pregnant). The pill ( two drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol) is taken in two doses, one typically at an abortion clinic and the other at home. AWPC does not perform or refer for abortions, but we are committed to being a free resource so you can get the information you need at no cost to you.

SURGICAL ABORTION

There are several types of surgical abortions. Suction aspiration, also called suction curettage, or vacuum aspiration abortion, is performed during the first 6 to 16 weeks gestation. Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) is another type of procedure typically done in later weeks. Both types have risks and side-effects and greatly vary depending on your gestation and health.

If you are considering abortion, a free first step is a pre-abortion assessment. Though we do not perform or refer for abortions at our Center, a pre-abortion assessment allows you to be completely informed on each procedure prior to making a final decision. Additionally, if you receive a positive result with one of our medical-grade pregnancy tests, we can provide a limited ultrasound to confirm intrauterine pregnancy and fetal heartbeat, both of which are important prior to an abortion procedure. We never financially benefit from your decision and can discuss your options with absolutely no pressure. All services are free and confidential.

*Note: A Pre-Abortion Assessment at AWPC does not replace an abortion consultation at an abortion clinic 24 hours prior to a procedure, as required by Florida legislation.
